Diary - An evening at Machaan

Plain bored by my consummating routine of the past 4 months, decided today to find a lonely corner outside my room and sit and ponder about a few things. Zeroed in on the isolated chai-shop near the campus gate which is called machaan perhaps only because it is situated over the institute co-op store! For the next hour or so, as many things came back at me and flooded my mind as they used to in the past!

1. Realized that I am losing the art of being happily alone for days (or at times, weeks) in a go. May be because of the n number of group projects or simply because my POV about loneliness has changed! Not that I am eccentric or anti-social or anti-Aristotle, just that my most precious moments have traditionally been the lonely ones.

2. The cleanliness notwithstanding, it was nostalgic to sip tea in a porcelain cup with a disc! Realized that I have been sipping tea in the plastic disposables for too long to realize what an old cup of tea used to be.

3. Sat at the left-hand corner of the kiosk facing the lake. Realized that the lake and greenery looks more beautiful if there is no deadline to be met tomorrow.

4. Saw two teenaged kiosk-workers involved in games of mischief - shouting from the rooftop and evading work ordered by the kiosk-owner. Realized that everything comes at a premium! (Connect the dots! :P)

5. Noticed many other things that won't make a difference to anyone, they still were there! Realized that uselessness is subjective. Heck, even objectivity is subjective for that sake.

A list of 5 for an hour spent? Well, you can notice my pen drifting towards more foolhardy-philosophy. I'd rather keep that to myself for now. Not that I suddenly grew possesive for all such thoughts, just that they'd be better reflected in poetry than in prose. :)

I recommend myself more such evenings in the near future.

  1. Couldn't resist but comment here though have spoken to you about this one personally... Because posts like these don't find much of audience. And I would love to read more of them. Funny thing, how comments on our blog (even if we say we don't care) encourage us. As my favorite line in this post speaks:

"Heck, even objectivity is subjective for that sake"
